Dear Margot,

What a touching story. I'm sure you will keep those cards close for many years to come.

Me, too. I have to share my story of the origin of my very special and
irreplaceable pair of hand cards. Mine have curved backs and apparently
hand-carved handles. One handle's shape is different from the other -- are
they all like that? They were given to me by a dear friend who became a
quadriplegic after being hit by airbags in what should have been a very
minor car accident. She is a talented artist but can no longer do fiber art.
The cards had been given to her by her father, who was a very well-known
fiber artist, after he could no longer use them. The wood has worn smooth by
many years of use and shaped to perfectly fit my grasp... every time I use
them I feel connected to my friend, and her father, and reminded of how
precious and fleeting life is. They are among my most treasured possessions,
and someday I'll hand them on to someone, in my turn.
