According to Beverly Horne's "Fleece in Your Hands" and other books, 'blood' refers to how much Merino is in the background of a given sheep. Half blood is 1/2 Merino, Three quarter blood is 1/4 Merino. I guess that means 3/8 would actually be 5/8 Merino?

The other sheep crossed with don't matter a lot, because Merino dominates crosses amazingly. I have a Merino x Lincoln fleece that looks and feels just like 100% Merino--maybe a touch longer staple, but nothing longer than I've seen on an occasional purebred Merino fleece.
