Thanks, everyone, for your explanations re. "crisp-handling."

I suspect that I have a basketful of said type that I've washed but  
not yet spun, and it reminds me of steel wool in looks.   
Unfortunately, I didn't label it as soon as it dried so will have to  
ask someone else from my spinning study group what breed it is.  I  
prefer fleeces with luster and long staple and waviness so seldom work  
with very crimpy wool, especially if the staple is short.  For a  
number of years now, I've been buying dyed roving and batts to spin  
rather than individual fleeces, or parts of fleeces, although I have  
plenty of both left to work on, too : }
