I never had any luck using a -damp- towel, the flax would stick to it on 
contact. 
A dry terry cotton towel wasn't much better. 

A dry smooth cotton or linen towel seemed to work much better with dry line 
flax. At least the fibers would slide. 

My favorite technique with line flax so far is one I learned at a Soar some 
years back.  Take a thumb thickness bit of line flax, bring the ends together 
side by side with some string, making a hanging loop. Tape the string to a 
convenient window or door.  Draft from the bottom of the hanging fold.
