All these months I was taking your evaluations seriously, now I get to
see an empirical sample, and I'm having some second doubts.  Those two
images look quite different to me.  Look at the fencing in the
background, as an example, and tell me the 4000 dpi san looks the same
as the 40000 > 3000 > 4000 dpi scan...

Interesting.  I came to the exact opposite conclusion.

Look, the 2700 dpi scanners don't do 2700 dpi, so don't expect the
Polaroid to do 4000.
There is a big different between how many elements there are per inch on
the CCD sensor and what it becomes after all that transport and
vibration movement, filters, A:D conversions, optics, software and
firmware, etc, are done with it.  If the Polaroid pulls out even another
20-30% that's a major improvement for not a lot of money (for those who
require it).
