I think "spam" is one of those words like "pornography" where the
definition is in the eye of the beholder.  If I like it and you don't, it's
mass email / erotica / interesting music; if you like it and I don't, it's
spam / pornography / noise.

For what it's worth, I didn't get the message that Andrew complained about
(or if I did, I never noticed it). Perhaps that's because I've never
downloaded NotePad.  Also, when I phoned in my Finale upgrade order and the
Coda guy asked for my email address, I wouldn't give it to him until after
he confirmed that it would be used for the order confirmation and private
messages only and not used for any commercial mailings.
