Ha! If only it were just an hour.

I guess this is old news for everyone by now, but those 20-second messages
were just the tip of the iceberg. My mailbox had already overloaded by the
first morning I was gone. I tried to download them all, but after about
two hour it was still churning away, so I gave up. Eventually (after
another hour trying to get Earthlink's web-based mail access to work for
me), I got tech support to delete them.

I never actually examined the monster digests, but I assume the reason that
they grew to be so enormous was that each new message quoted the past
messages that it was "denying access" to, and that included all the
previous "access denied" messages, so the monster would quote itself ad
infinitum until someone pulled the plug.
