Yes, that would be great -- given that a folder in the dock gives you a 
hierarchical subfolder menu, I wouldn't have thought it would be 
difficult to incorporate into the Finder itself. Even better would be if 
you could also drag a file *into* a subfolder in this way -- like the 
old OS 9 spring-loaded folders, but with menus. But maybe X doesn't 
support dragging into menus.
