[Philip Aker:]
If you were inclined in the area I suggest that you would have noticed how most
people format their email and quote replies on this list and adjusted your posts
to the norm accordingly.
[My respone:]
I don't know what you mean by this. What is wrong with my e-mail? I
attribute all material I quote; I try to trim them to a reasonable amount to
give context. I write in plain-text format, not H.T.M.L. - apparently the big
sin on this list. (I don't like it myself; but I don't make a song and dance
about it if someone else posts in that format.)
And what does all this have to do with engraving? I am not aware of any
rules on this list about e-mail that I am obliged to follow, which I am not
following.
I see little variations between the precise details of how people write
e-mail, and don't go complaining about it because it's not the way I do it. I
don't see you complaining about people who put their reply at the top, then
needlessly quote a whole screenful or two of the original mail, unedited.
Your tone suggests to me that you will be inclined to find fault with the
way I do things, whatever I say. Why?
[Philip:]
That's because people inclined towards high test engraving notice these details
*everywhere*.
[Myself:]
If I notice details about the way someone else does something, it doesn't
necessarily mean I decide to slavishly imitate it myself. Of course if I do a
job for someone, I do what they want - no question about that. I don't see the
analogy with picky details of the way I write e-mail, though. And I don't know
exactly what you're referring to.
[Philip:]
So I conclude that because such factors are not already within your purview, it
would be an uphill battle for you to compete with folks who came to the
profession because that's what they already *knew* before they ever had a music
application. That's why folks on this list can get real hot and bothered about a
freakin' 2 or 3 EVPU displacement of some elements in their printouts. It's
because their heart is in the perception of those kinds of details...
[Myself:]
Perhaps you'd like to explain what you mean, rather than hint at it
obliquely. You sound jolly annoyed!
Regards,
Michael Edwards.
