Any time I have installed any software on our G4, including re-installing Finale, it has caused the same problem. After probing the members of this list and other experts, I have learned that installing software on this machine destroys the OMS setup, particularly if you are using USB's, which I assume you are. Our system was configured by the original operator to playback files not from the piano, but from the QuickTime sounds on the hard drive. I understand it can be configured to play back from the piano, but I have not had the time to sit down and look at things carefully enough to be sure that I am doing it correctly. Anyway, when your OMS setup is messed up, the Finale files can't play.
