Hi again, all. It appears to me now that the channel assignment of a patch change attached to an expression has to do with what staff the expression is attached to and cannot be changed. I assume a separate expression with a channel change is required for that.
I would almost swear that I have been able to set a channel change along with a patch change in the past--but I guess that's why my mother tried to teach me not to swear... What created the issue for me was that I tried to go down my text expression list editing the playback parameters for many expressions without leaving the selection box. The channel number kept snapping back to the channel assigned to the staff I had clicked near, or the staff of the expression I had double-clicked to edit first.
