Both. I just tried, changed the font for clefs, saved the doc options lib, undid the change of font, loaded the lib and there were my changed clefs. The document options lib actually includes several things that can be saved separately in other libraries. In my opinion a very flexible concept. Naturally what you said in the rest of your post all makes perfect sense, but let me give you a typical situation where I use libraries a lot: When I start a larger project (like several books of organ music I am doing at the moment) I first use my main Default file to create a project template. In the course of the work I often change some settings, for instance I changed the smart slur placement for multi-layer parts. If I had to do this change manually for each document in the project, I would have to change about 10 values in each doc. With the library approach, since I actually _want_ all the settings to be the same, I just save the doc options lib once, and load it into all of the other docs. Quick and reliable. > The problem is that using the Document Settings library is an all or > nothing affair, and there's a huge collection of values included (not all > of which Options-> Document Settings submenu). As far as I understood one of the under-the-hood improvements in 2k3 is the ability to access _all_ the document settings. That doesn't mean that libraries serve no purpose anymore.
