I would second this. We introduced Finale Notepad to all students on their
laptops from Years 6 to 12. It certainly is a revolution, particularly for
those students at the initial stages of music learning who haven't yet
learned to play an instrument. It makes teaching things like writing a
melody above a set of chords so much easier, because they can play it back
straight away and hear the difference.

It also provides a great transition to the full version of Finale. I have
had labs-full of girls in Year 7 (12 year olds) happily using the full
version of Finale, which sort of puts paid to the "Finale is too difficult"
argument.

One thing that I'm going to try is to modify the Maestro Default File in
Notepad because it doesn't display bar numbers as a default, and also I
think that the page % is way too large. IIRC, the range of text expressions
isn't too large either, and I don't think you can create any more apart from
the text tool.

It would also be nice if Coda could facilitate changing time signatures in
the Notepad application, but you can't have everything I suppose.

Matthew
