I didn't follow all the details of your example, but you can define the style so that articulations don't show up on the invisible layer. Try this: 1. Choose "Define Staff Styles" from the Staff menu. 2. Under "Available Styles", select the "Blank Notation" style that you're using. 3. Click the "Select" button under "Alternate Notation" 4. Uncheck "Show Items Attached to Notes". 5. Click "OK" twice to make the change. I think this will accomplish what you want. If it does, you can set it on your templates and never have to worry about it again.
