Can anyone point me to a source which tells us about Bach himself creating this image? I found it in my 1980 copy of Grove, but did not find any information about its creation. BTW, my favourite volume of the Grove Dictionary is volume 2, which is entitled "Back to Bolivia!" Beats the joke about the boy who borrowed the encyclopedia volume labelled "How to Hug," I think!
