You aren't telling exactly what the problem is -- is it that NOTHING is
showing up, or that what is showing up is extremely inaccurate?

First off, mic-notator isn't supposed to work with speedy entry. That
is a note-by-note entry method, where you can use a midi-keyboard to
specify the pitch and the computer keyboard to specify the duration, or
you can use only the computer keyboard to specify both pitch and duration.

If you are getting some notation to appear, but it is very inaccurate,
then your quantization settings are off and need to be experimented with
to improve accuracy. If the pitch is inaccurate, then you either need
to practice your intonation more or get a more expensive microphone.
The ones that typically come with computers are NOT meant for musical
instrument use and won't return good results.

If you are not getting ANY notation to appear, then some other setting
is off to get the entries from mic-notator to hyperscribe for noting.
There is a setting in the hyperscribe menu for Transcription mode. That
is where Finale records your input but doesn't put anything in notation
until after you mess around in the transcription dialog. Perhaps you
have that checked? If so, you need to click the TRANSCRIBE button in
Finale's mini-sequencer window before notation will appear.

Using hyperscribe is always dicey, under the best of conditions, which
seem to be if you are metronomically perfect, using a midi keyboard.

Mic-notator is unfortunately one of those marketing-guys add-ons to the
program in an effort to suck in a broader user-base, but which doesn't
work very well in practice (and which I suspect the programmers wish
hadn't been approved by the powers that be).

In short, with an extremely perfect (read that as expensive) microphone,
with a perfectly played musical line and the perfect quantization
settings you might get something reasonably accurate.

It has been my experience that speedy entry is by far the fastest entry
method.

It will be interesting if somebody replies claiming to always be using
mic-notator for note entry with great success.
