Hi listers,
I don’t have the time to see if the “problem” already has been solved by some other visitor of this pages, but:
It’s a matter of staff style definition: staff tool > define staff styles > slash notation > select alternate notation > select show items attached to other layers.
It’s fairly simple to add an invisible (another staff style!) layer, say #4, easily filled with quarter notes (or halves, whatever you want), to which you can attach your chord symbols.
Mighty feature: Staff Styles!

P.S.
Keep in mind – maybe just a reminder -: theoretically a measure filled with slashes means: go on with the established groove; keep on timing so to speak; If you are in need of a special chordal rhythm, you should use the well known alternate noteheads for the wanted rhythm (diamond etc.).
