Win98SE on up supports multiple monitors. My Matrox G450 AGP dual-head supports two 19-inch 1280x1024 monitors nicely, and multiple cards can be used for more monitors (depending on motherboard, etc.). I think Win98SE is limited to 8, but I don't recall ... don't have the luxury. If you use random old cards you have sitting around, though, you might end up with conflicts and crashes; don't do it unless you have time to troubleshoot IRQ and other conflict issues. Good PCI cards can be had for $10-$20 on eBay, and the later Matrox cards (for example) don't conflict with each other.
