This is not a trivial matter. Office Max paper is less than ideal for music, both in its light weight and its lack of opacity, and most people lack access to anything more professional. Way back when, I did join BMI, but never composed enough for it to come into play. The talk at the time was that the ASCAP formulas were heavily weighted to favor the old guys, so a newcomer was better off with BMI. It would be interesting to hear from current members.
