Speaking as a conductor, I find it very disconcerting to have the spacing between staves within a system change from system to system or page to page. I much prefer extra white space around the systems to having the page more evenly covered.

As I conduct, my glances at the score are dependent upon the information I am seeking being in a specific place within the system. If it jumps around I find it much more difficult.

I realize that once again I am replying with a "gee I don't think you should do that" rather than a working solution.

But I did want to add an opposing view to the discussion -- as much as possible systems should all be spaced the same.

We have "Space Systems evenly" , and we have Jari's "Space Systems" plugin,

Sometimes, due to layout decisions and especially with larger scores there
is too much white space between the systems. This then needs to be
compensated by spacing the staves in the individual systems wider.
I would really like to have a plugin which can do a combination of system-
and stff spacing automatically, ie it looks for a maximum white space on
each page (ie a user definable %) and then if necessary first spaces the
staves of each system on the page up to a user definable amount, and then
applies normal system spacing. This would save quite a lot of time.
