It's too bad you missed this thread! We just finished discussing these
questions in some depth a few days ago.

With a few isolated exceptions, MIDI does not work reliably under Classic.
If you use a MIDI keyboard for input or playback in Finale (or any other
application that has not yet been updated for OS X), you will need to boot
into OS 9 to do so -- and no Mac introduced this year boots OS 9.

That depends what "soon" means. If you are able to wait until Finale
introduces an OS X-compatible version (in July or August of this year,
presuming no further delays), I would definitely advise you to do so. You
will get a much better computer for your money and won't need to fool around
with two different OS's. If you need a new machine before then, you should
go straight away to the usual Mac online stores (MacMall, MacConnection,
etc) and buy an older, OS 9-booting Mac while they are still in stock. Some
of these sites have the 2002 dual 1 GHz G4 tower for about $2000, which is a
pretty good deal. And the 15" 1 GHz Titanium PowerBook is a fantastic
portable, if you're looking for mobility. I would advise strongly against
getting a Mac with a processor slower than 1 GHz unless you absolutely can't
afford it.
