Even if this seems to contradict my previous statement: I use a USB device (ESI U24) with Spark on a rather dated Powerbook Wallstreet. When the computer is setup correctly (ie powermanagement, low disk cache) it has worked without any problems for a whole CD recording. Yet, I wouldn't feel save without the DAT backup.
