Are you saying that if you create a Note Expression in the Shape Designer and insert it via a metatool (that you create for that purpose), it doesn't work (at least in Tab)? I wouldn't know why a Note Expresssion would go "every which way." I mean, it is what it is... unless there's something about Tab that causes it to behave differently (I don't work with Tab).
If I understand you right, in an attempt to fix this you returned to the Finale file, did the process you described below, saved it as an EPS file, imported it into Quark, and this time had no problems; you want to know if there was an easier way to do the Finale portion of that.
