Actually, I believe you'll discover as you get older that now is the BEST
time to ask for and get what you need. Or haven't you ever heard of a little
something called "honeymoon"? (:>)

Another thing you'll discover is that $100 is absolutely nothing compared to
productivity gains. It pays for itself many times. It seems like a lot to
you because you're used to universty-student budgets, and we all can
empathize with that mindset. But you're in the business world now, and you
need what you need.

Of course, you've already been told about how you have a built-in capability
to program 8 macros for tools . As for the reply that said having only 8 is
"...woefuly inadequate for the serious user," I disagree. The point is not
that there are more than 8 tools, the point is that you proably can think of
the 8 you use the most and select those for the macros. For the less-used
tools, they're but a tool pallete away. And while I'm at it, let me put a
plug in for using a trackball--it's great for people who must access
toolbars and pallettes frequently. Just spin that sucker and go...

As for:
>My problem now... the computer they gave me to use at work is a Mac.

Well, we Mac users would call that a wonderful, life-changing opportunity
that's been handed to you...heh heh
