and mainly use plain vanilla Maestro. I notice that all my font annotation

BTW, I notice that the problem is especially noticeable when the slur is on
the stem side. Maybe it's trying to avoid something that isn't there? Any
suggestions for a real fix to this problem are appreciated.

You've (all) identified the problem: I have been fiddling with my font annotation folder and although I got a message when I opened the file everything (apart from the slurs) looked fine. All is now in order and the slurs have gone back to normal...thanks!

Is this happening with all/most slurs, or just with a few? If you see

slurs misbehaving it is likely that there is something wrong with your

annotation. Have you started using a music font that doesn't have a font
annotation file?
If it is just a few slurs misbehaving, I suspect there is not much you
can
do about this. Updating to 2k3 may solve some or even most of them. I
still
occasionally get a slur badly shaped in 2k3. My solution normally is to
switch off Engraver slurs for that one slur (with the context menu) and
do
any adjustments manually.
I would actually like to see your misbehaving slurs. Could you send me a
file (not too large if possible) and point me to the slurs you mean?
