To fix the problem I simply reloaded the font annotation folder from the finale disc and made sure it was in the right place (inside the finale folder). Before I did this, the peaks of the slurs were way higher than they should have been ( though the tips were in the correct locations), which meant that I had to adjust each one back to a 'normal' curvature. They're fine now I've restored the font annotation folder.

What exactly did you do to fix the problem? I've had occasional (maybe 5%
of the time) weirdly shaped slurs ever since Engraver slurs were introduced.
Even so, the slurs only misbehave at some magnifications (usually 100%) and
not at others (like the ones I edit on-screen at). I've always assumed it
was a bug, and my solution has been to turn off Engraver slurs for that slur
and tweak it manually. I'm on Finale 2003b for Win, have no custom fonts,
and mainly use plain vanilla Maestro. I notice that all my font annotation
files are dated 8/7/2001.

BTW, I notice that the problem is especially noticeable when the slur is on
the stem side. Maybe it's trying to avoid something that isn't there? Any
suggestions for a real fix to this problem are appreciated.

You've (all) identified the problem: I have been fiddling with my font annotation folder and although I got a message when I opened the file everything (apart from the slurs) looked fine. All is now in order and the slurs have gone back to normal...thanks!

Johannes: as much as it would be interesting to send you a specimen, now
that I've fixed the problem I no longer have the misbehaving slurs!!

Is this happening with all/most slurs, or just with a few? If you see
many
slurs misbehaving it is likely that there is something wrong with your
font
annotation. Have you started using a music font that doesn't have a font
annotation file?

If it is just a few slurs misbehaving, I suspect there is not much you
can
do about this. Updating to 2k3 may solve some or even most of them. I
still
occasionally get a slur badly shaped in 2k3. My solution normally is to
switch off Engraver slurs for that one slur (with the context menu) and
do
any adjustments manually.

I would actually like to see your misbehaving slurs. Could you send me a
file (not too large if possible) and point me to the slurs you mean?
