The question was about "smart implosion" and as you say, if the parts aren't homophonic the implosion that happens under MassEdit is not all that smart, and indeed not as smart as TGTools smart part extraction, so the advice to enter the parts in separate layers on a single staff and then to use the smart part extraction is still the best advice.

Is there a smart part 'implosion'? Suggestions? Wisdom?

Aha! I *knew* I'd find it! If you select the staves you'd like to implode,
you can use Mass Edit > Utilities > Implode Music to put them all on one
staff. You can decide either to put them together onto the top staff of the
selection or to create a new staff at the bottom of the score with the
imploded parts. The only caveat is that this is not as "smart" as TGTools'
extraction: the parts must be homophonic (all have the same rhythm) for it
to work perfectly.

Don't forget about built-in functions... Finale can do *some* things without
plug-ins. :)
