Ah yes - "Play it like the record"...

Years ago (before CDs became the norm) we had a ballet conductor say in
rehearsal "I hate doing it, but the record the ballet company has been using
has a big corny ritard right here ..."

I got a nice laugh when I continued, from my chair in the trombone section
"And there's a big _scratch_ coming up, in a few bars."

Somebody has gotten real smart, and there are now new recordings of a number of Bway shows that are complete, with all the songs (including the ones that were cut in the movies and the original cast albums) and ALL THE DANCE MUSIC! Two summers ago we had two movie versions and two CD versions of "Annie," and none of them had music that could be choreographed to. This summer we have a 2 CD recording of "King & I" that can be directly choreographed to, a major timesaver. And every time a company mounts one of these shows, they're going to sell a lot of CDs to members of the company. Now all I have to do is make sure I conduct it "just like the CD"!
