You have to play around with the percussion staff, defining it using the staff tool -- if you already have the staff in place and written, I think you might run into problems changing what is there, so you might want to define a new staff. In the Notation Style selection at the lower left of the Staff Tool dialog, select Percussion and then click on SELECT. You can select whichever type you want to use - GM entry and Playback will work with a percussion clef, Bass Clef and GM Playback will work with a bass clef, if you are using a GM synth for playback. Then you go down the list of notes and need to select those sounds and their note-placements that you want to include on that staff. So find the SD and BD notes and put a check in the Use For Staff 1 (or whatever your staff is named.) You can also select all the notes to be used, or just the named notes, rather than limiting yourself to just a couple of notes for that staff.

Experiment a bit before going too far with the percussion staff.

Hello all....

Something I encountered the other day on a project, my customer asked
for a rough recording of the work I have been doing for him. It is a
standard wind band arrangement, including percussion. For clarity sake
I always notate the snare drum and bass drum on the same part - a 5 line
staff with percussion clef. I use the first space for the bass drum
(always in layer 2) and the third space for the snare drum (always layer
1).

When I hit play within finale to listen to the arrangement the two
pitches for sd and bd come out as a whistle and cowbell. Is there
anyway for me change things to get the correct sounds I want? I played
around and found that the sd sound I like is seven ledger lines below
the staff and the bd sound is nine ledger lines below.

I could just create a copy of the file and move the appropriate notes
down, but I would prefer to have it set to the two locations I already
use.

Any help is much appreciated, on list or off.
