Midi support I cannot judge, although I see all major MIDI packages already going OS X only now (that includes the major packages you named, plus Steinberg) - they must be functioning. Audio I can judge and it is now better than it ever was in OS 9, there is simply no reason to stay with OS 9.
If you read the discussion lists discussing Digital Performer and Logic among others, you will quickly come to the conclusion that the OS X versions of these major programs are not yet "functioning" at the same level as the OS 9 versions. There are new serious bugs and loss of features (e.g. no MIDI librarian programs, far fewer of our most beloved plugins, hardware incompatibility for even new(ish) gear, and so on).
OS X holds the promise of new features and better performance some day in the future, but as of right now, OS 9 is still the system that most professional Mac-based studios need to use. (There is a similar lag in the graphics world.)
It's not dead yet!
