I agree with you completely.  My original post was meant to be
"informational" and was not intended as a contribution to the thread on
the Read reprint.  In retrospect, I should have changed the subject
heading to reflect this as you have done with this response.  Perhaps I
should go back to being a lurker!:-)

Much of this discussion is besides the point. Many of titles at Carter's
sight simply are not available anywhere else. The indispensable Kurt
Stone book, "Music Notation in the 20th Century," languished out of
print for years before Carter convinced Norton to reprint it. I think he
did so essentially by agreeing to buy much of the entire run. Now, I see
you can get it from Amazon, but it is only because Carter did what he
did.

I see that Amazon does not even have the Ted Ross, so Carter could be
one of the only sources. I know this has also been the case for some of
the Gardner Read titles.

Buy now while you can!
