Can you enlighten me as to whether or not there's a practical difference between what can be done via Finale script keyboard shortcuts and what can be done with a macro program like Quickeys? (Of course, I appreciate the beauty of avoiding the introduction of an extra application - but does it make a substantial, practical difference?)

I have become used to the convenience of my supplemental 20 key X-keys keyboard for tool selection. I imagine that programming this from within Finale would be more elegant, and maybe easier, than setting up Quickeys shortcuts (as I have done) and mapping them to the X-keys but, once it's set up, does it really matter?

Chuck,

If it were actually a feature of Finale 2004, I believe it would be able to take the place of QuicKeys for tool selection. FinaleScript can choose tools easily; however, WinFin2k4 does NOT have the promised keyboard shortcut feature. According to WinSupport, it "got dropped due to lack of time."

Write an email to MacSupport! I have. They still have over a month and a half; and if they don't implement it in the Mac version we'll be forced to upgrade to QuicKeys X.

I hope that they'll also be able to implement it to choose ANY menu item... TGTools elements or other plug-ins, for instance.
