You might want to visit http://www.danieldorff.com/commission.htm where I've
got a page that can be helpful in a lot of ways. It still doesn't say
numbers but it does help clarify things. Another resource is Meet The
Composer which has a recommended pricelist.  So many things are variables
though.  Are they producing a commercial CD? Playing it 100 times in
JASRAC-licensed venues so you'll get ASCAP/BMI money later? Is it going to
be played just once at a rural college? Would they cover expenses for you to
come to the premiere? Things like this might increase or decrease your
interest level.  I've written a few pieces for lower fees than I should have
because there were guarantees of many performances by ASCAP-licensed
ensembles, and I knew the performance royalties would more than make up for
the low fee.

Congratulations - which group? The Harmo Saxophone Quartet is the biggest
name there.
