Yes, it is, in the things I see, though I prefer to almost NEVER optimise scores at all, and find cutaway scores (like Stravinsky) to be an enormous pain, so take that as an example of my philosophy.


2) Would you make an exception if, for instance, in one movement only the violas and the cellos had music?


Yes I would. I would only show the instruments that play in that movement, but for the entire movement.
