Oh, I really think this is not the right way to go about this. For starters, this doesn't gain you anything -- it doesn't make the files any more accessible. And you have all the additional problems of trying to get this drive to boot on the new machine, and the added strain on the drive which this causes.
No, if this really is a failing hard drive (which I strongly suspect), your best bet is to try to get your important data files off it as quickly and easily as possible.
