I was led to believe that thorn is unvoiced th and edh
(ð) is voiced th.
thorn and eth (capital eth = Ð) were used interchangeably, often within the same document - often within the same sentence. Just something else to make life difficult for us.
Incidentally, it was a form of printing the thorn symbol (þ) which resembled the letter y which led to the word "the" being written as "ye" (as in "Ye Olde Curiositie Shoppe") The correct pronunciation of "Ye" in this sense is "The".
All the best,
Lawrence
