thorn and eth (capital eth = Š) were used interchangeably, often within the same document - often within the same sentence.  Just something else to make life difficult for us.

Incidentally, it was a form of printing the thorn symbol (ž) which resembled the letter y which led to the word "the" being written as "ye" (as in "Ye Olde Curiositie Shoppe")  The correct pronunciation of "Ye" in this sense is "The".

All the best,

Lawrence

How would you pronounce "ŽAŠ" ?
