As this List is home to many a computer maven, I want to pose an OT
question about ethernet.

We have an older Mac at one of my elementary schools. It is a 5260/100
PowerPC. It has an ethernet port on the back and we are running OS 8.6.

The problem is: when I try to configure this computer so that it can join
the school's network, ETHERNET is not an available choice in the TCP/IP
window. I have PPP or AppleTalk PPP, but no ethernet.

I did a clean install of OS 8, bumped it to OS 8.5 and then to 8.6, but
there was no change.

What am I leaving out? If this Mac has built in ethernet, shouldn't I be
able to use it for the school's network? Why is it not available in the
TCP/IP window?
