Hi all,[snip]
I frequently encounter this bug in MacFin2004 -- if you have auto-save every X minutes turned on, when auto-saving an untitled document, Finale will prompt you to name it and specify a save location.
I have noticed this as well. I have is set to auto-save every 15 minutes,
and that's what it will do, every 15 minutes. Even if it's playing back it
will try to save, which will crash the program. Even if it's not the
frontmost application it'll try to save.
MacFin2k3 always waited until the program was frontmost and "idle" before
attempting to auto-save. MacFin2k4 isn't doing this, I suppose, because OSX
has more advanced mutitasking capabilities and will allow many more things
to be attempted at once than OS9 did. Despite this, the autosave needs to
be reprogrammed to fix this blatant bug.
Please, everyone, email macsupport about this one.
Just to be clear -- I *do* think that having the autosave work even when Finale is in the background is a good feature. Normally, this doesn't cause any problems. I also think that having Finale prompt you to name any unnamed documents when autosaving is a good idea -- after all, this is how it has always worked. I even think having Finale save during playback is fine, provided it can be done without interrupting playback or causing the program to hang or crash.
The only problem here is that there's some sort of bug in the autosave which sometimes (okay, frequently) causes Fin2004 to hang. I definitely want that bug fixed, but not at the expense of disabling background autosaves. That's a feature I'd like to keep. I just want the hanging bug fixed.
