I use a Microsoft Trackball Optical. I found that since it's operated
with your thumb instead of the index finger it was much easier to get
control of (and is far more precise). I have terrible problems with
wrist pain that have all but disappeared with the introduction of this
device. I tried a graphics tablet a bit with Finale but I didn't find it
more useful than any other pointing device.

Owain,

If you don't have a lightweight optical mouse, I highly recommend
getting one. They are much easier on the hand and wrist than a
conventional mouse. I have the Logitech optical mouse w/scroll wheel,
and a Kensington mousepad with gel wrist support, and this has made a
huge difference. I no longer have any problems with my mousing hand.

I hear trackballs are also good, but I could never get the hang of them.
