OK, there's no problem here, after all. It's apparently a kludge I put in to work around a lack of spacing of clef changes in the old version. In the GIF, the green clefs are articulations. The only reason I can see for their being there is for the spacing. I only figured it out because I ran into the same kind of situation in another file, only this time, I had not used a real mid-measure clef, I'd just attached articulation clefs to the wrong notes in the display-only layer. This is pretty annoying, and the reason why I want to use methods that are fairly straightforward for fixing all of this. For right now, I'm using the Edit Frame dialog and turning off spacing for the blank layers. It takes quite a few clicks, but it works reliably with minimal editing of what I've already got there. -- David W.
