I don't know the Windows side of things, but on the Mac there is a system option which prevents unexpected cursor movements if the touchpad is touched while you type. This does not work together with Metatools in Finale, and has to be switched off. If not very jerky mouse cursor movement is the result whenever a metatool is pressed.
