I keep Read's book close by and refer to it frequently. It has very rarely (if ever) failed to provide the solution I needed.

I'm not sure if I'm that trustworthy in these matters :) but FWIW, I write and/or edit a variety of choral, orchestral, opera, piano/vocal scores, so I need a pretty thorough reference book. Having said all of this, I'd be very interested if other responses turn up other good notation manuals.

I'm just wondering what the list's opinion of Gardner Read's "Music Notation: A Manual of Modern Practice" is. I'm thinking of acquiring it for myself and I'd like to get some opinions from people I trust instead of a bookseller's website.

Thanks,
Taris
