The Harvard Dictionary has a good entry on these, with examples. If I read
it correctly, it is from a rather specific (50-year) time period, a
suspension of the dissonance into the following chord, and released before
the chord is released. So that would make it a keyboarded ornament.

Not that I've ever heard one, being a fancier of latter-day genres. :)
