I'm on Win, and I understand that you Mac folks currently have it much worse than we do.

Nonetheless, *I'm* a bit peeved at having to pay for a 2005 upgrade. When I buy a piece of commercial software, I expect to get a product free from all but trivial bugs, and I expect any non-trivial bugs to be fixed without additional expense. Fin2004 was, in my experience, a buggier release than Fin2003, containing new non-trivial bugs as well as older ones. I should not have to pay more money to get those bugs fixed. This is a little like going to McDonalds for a value meal and having them forget to include your drink -- and then wanting to charge you again to give you the drink. In my mind, Coda has not yet given me the working piece of software I paid for.

Having voiced my own frustration, I'll add that it's appalling that Coda would consider charging Mac users for the 2005 version after all they've gone through. 2005 should be a free upgrade to any 2004 Mac customers -- and they should consider the same for Win users as well.

I'll add a cautionary tale, for any Coda folks reading this. A few years ago, the software company Borland released version 4 of it's development tool Delphi. While previous versions had been very well received, v4 was generally considered a buggy and poorly engineered version, even after a couple of service patches, rushed out the door to meet a product schedule. Faced with the mounting anger of many of its loyal customers, Borland publicly acknowledged and apologized for the process which had let to v4 and vowed to spend more time on quality control even if it meant that they didn't get new versions out on their predetermined schedule. They did charge for v5 when it came out, but the apology made an impression -- and subsequent versions have generally been rock solid.

Aaron.
