I feel embarrassed asking this.

I have had Finale Mac since version 1 and did amazing amounts of work up to about 5 years ago.
Now I only do bits for myself but always get the updates. I have FinMac2004c.
Was just doing a piece and needed "X" heads for cymbals.

What I usually do is use layer 3(stems up for snare drum) 3rd space, layer 4 (stems down )for bass drum , Layer 1 for "X" note head cymbals space above the stave.

What is the easiest way to create the X cymbol heads ? I have just completed an arrangement (the usual stuck for time) and resorted to Special Tools.
I have looked at perc. maps and thought this was the answer but didn't work for me.

Looked in "Help" but nothing was immediately obvious - for my simple mind.
any suggestions greatfully received.

If ONLY the cymbals are in layer 1, then it is very easy.

Mass Edit tool, select the entire staff by clicking on the clef.

Under View, select "Show Active Layer Only" (assuming you ARE in layer 1). You should now only see the cymbal part on that staff, all other layers are hidden.

Under the Mass Edit Menu>Change>Noteheads select Change To... Selected Noteheads. Click the Select box and scroll until you find the x head. it might be lowercase y in Maestro; it's opt-shift-? in JazzFont.

OK your way out.

Turn off "Show Active Layer Only". All should be well.
