For a number of composers and theorists on the Finale List this topic is undoubtedly a hot one, but for many others it could be regarded as a bothersome sidetrack.
So what? It's clearly marked as OT (off topic), and it's a discussion directly related to music (which makes it rather less off-topic than political flamewars, etc.) If off topic posts really offend you deep in your soul, how hard is it to set up a filter for such messages? And are they preventing anyone who chimes in with on-topic questions from getting answers?
I note that the people who complain about the volume and frequency of off-topic posts are almost always lurkers who rarely have anything useful to contribute to the list -- on topic or off. Whereas the people who participate in and enjoy off topic discussions are often the most likely to respond with a good solution when Finale-specific questions are asked.
I suggest that those interested respond directly to you and me.
Of course, that's your call, but I wish you'd kept this on-list. Given the popularity of this thread, it's obviously of considerable interest to a number of Finale list regulars.
I'm all for interesting OT messages occasionally, but these sometimes account for more bandwidth than the main topic - Finale
IMO, that's just not a problem unless people's Finale questions aren't being answered, and that's not the case here.
