For a number of composers and theorists on the Finale List this topic is undoubtedly a hot one, but for many others it could be regarded as a bothersome sidetrack.
So what? It's clearly marked as OT (off topic), and it's a discussion directly related to music (which makes it rather less off-topic than political flamewars, etc.) If off topic posts really offend you deep in your soul, how hard is it to set up a filter for such messages? And are they preventing anyone who chimes in with on-topic questions from getting answers?
I concur with Darcy. I followed the thread for a little while, when it was still labeled "2/10", but before long it ventured beyond both my comprehension and my interest, so I stopped. There's no need even for a formal filter. Now I see messages with "Schenker" in the subject line and I just delete them unread. No bother.
It costs me virtually nothing, and if others enjoy the conversation, I think that's great. Surely it's not necessary that every message be of interest to every subscriber. I'm sure that some of the lengthy discussions I've engaged in on this List, both on topic and off, have been boring to others, too. There's plenty of room for everyone here, and it's not as if the List is overflowing with spam.
