BUT, if you want to have alternate page numbering, you need to create two text blocks, and define their Frame Attributes differently. When you click on Frame Attributes under the Text menu, the top item in the dialog is Attach to. If you are creating this text block in page view, the radio button for Page will be checked, and Single Page will be showing. Click the drop-down list and you will see the choices for Left Page and Right Page.
Define one of your text blocks with page number inserted to appear only on Left pages, and define the alignment and position as you want on the even-numbered pages, and do the same for the other text block except define it to appear only on Right pages (i.e. odd numbered pages.)
The Frames Attributes enable you to do this using only one text block. You simply tick "Use Right Page Positioning".
That's true if you want the same text, same justification on all pages. Something like: "My Composition -- P. 1" or simply "Page 1" would work fine.
But if you have a text block of two or more lines and you want the text left-justified on the left pages but right-justified on the right pages, you need to create the two blocks as I outlined.
So if you want the right pages to be:
My Composition
P. 2
and the left pages to be:
My Composition
P. 1
You need to follow my original procedure.I wonder why they can't just add a justification option to the Right Page Alignment and Positioning section of that dialog.
Personally, I usually center the page number either at the top or the bottom, so it's always in the same place on each page.
