I know this has probably been discussed here before, but I need a bit of help with a piece I'm working on right now. The piano part will definitely be easier to read if the notes in both hands are beamed together. Now, I now how to do cross-staff beaming and reverse stemming to make it all look okay, but there are still two problems that plague me.
1. How do I get the stems to appear in the middle of a second instead of on the outside?
2. How do I get the articulations (staccatos in my case) to appear on the noteheads and not around the beam between the staves?
Dear Taris,
No. 2 is easy. Create a duplicate of the staccato mark, but
select "on stem side" instead of "on note side."
When you enter these they may look like they are going in the wrong
place, but after a redraw, they will be on the note side for the items
that had their stems reversed.
In order to get the seconds lined up correctly, I use the note
position tool on each note in a sample measure. Then you can copy that
to similar measures using Mass Mover with nothing checked except
"notehead.......alterations".
BTW, if your cross-staff figure stays the same except for
pitches, you can use Patterson's Mass Copy plug-in to copy the
cross-staff, beam angle, and reverse stem alterations into other
measures that need these alterations.
I hope this helps.
