I am doing some charts for a jazz singer, and she wishes me to place the symbol for "play the same thing in this measure that you played in the last measure" symbol (sorry I don't know its name; it looks like a "divided by" sign) above certain measures in place of a chord. It is not available except in a staff style. I don't know why she feels the need to have it, but she does. I have created it as an expression, but it doesn't look very good, especially since it doesn't have the jazz font style.

You don't say, but I am suspecting you created the expression "from scratch" in the shape designer. How about still using the shape designer, but instead of creating the shape from scratch, invoking the text tool in the shape designer, finding the shape you desire in the jazz font, typing that into the shape, and setting the size of the font to 24 points. That will still be a shape expression, and you might be able to do it simply by editing the existing shape.
